Namuang Waterfall 2 is the upper of the two Na Muang falls in the granite hills of central-south Koh Samui; the name 'Na Muang' means 'purple waterfall', from the distinctive purple rocks over which the water flows. Its roughly 80-metre, multi-tiered cascade makes it the highest waterfall on the island, and the climb through the jungle has been a favourite local excursion for generations. The base grew into a tourist hub with elephant trekking camps, safari-park activities and food stalls, while the natural pool and viewpoint at the top became the falls' famous reward. Local folklore links the waterfalls to guardian spirits, reflecting the islanders' deep connection to the site.

- Wear sturdy shoes, not flip-flops - the steep, rocky trail is slippery, especially after rain, and ropes help on the steepest sections.
- Bring swimwear and a towel to bathe in the natural pools; the shallow pool at the top is the highlight.
- Go early morning or late afternoon to beat the crowds, the heat and the busy elephant-park area at the base.
- Carry water and insect repellent - there is only a small kiosk at the trail start, with nothing further up.
- Use extreme caution at the top: the rocks are very slippery and there have been fatal falls; do not attempt the climb in heavy rain.
